Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Pregnancy Care Center?
  • The PCC is an extension of local churches in the community to provide alternatives to abortion to any woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The PCC is a grassroots ministry designed to assist a woman and significant others in her life in the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy. We provide her with accurate information, emotional and material support to enable her to carry her baby to term.
  • The PCC is a pro-life organization supported by local churches, businesses, and individuals.   It exists to provide alternatives to abortion.
  • Because we are pro-life, we believe it is necessary to be actively involved in providing women-in-need with accurate information about abortion (risks and methods) and services to enable her to carry her baby to term.

2. What about your counselors? What qualifies them to counsel women in unplanned pregnancies?
  • Each volunteer takes a basic training seminar and then receives on-the-job training prior to counseling women. A volunteer will also receive ongoing in-service training.
  • The volunteers have a deep sense of compassion for women in an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The backgrounds of our volunteers are from a broad spectrum of professions including, RN, homemakers, teachers and other helping professions.
  • All our counselors are evangelical Christians. As Christians, we are here to extend compassion and practical assistance for women in an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The volunteers are here because they are pro-life and desire to provide positive alternatives to abortion. They care about both the woman and her baby.
  • The counseling we provide is not intended as a substitute for professional counseling; we maintain a list of professional services for referrals.

3. How did the PCC begin?
  • Our Center began in 1989 by a group of local pro-life Christians who felt that it was imperative to give women in an unplanned pregnancy accurate information on fetal development, abortion risks and life affirming options.  We believe if you are truly pro-life, you need to help women in an unplanned pregnancy know they do not have to have an abortion and she has support in choosing life.

4. Are you affiliated with any other organization? Any anti-abortion groups?
  • We are affiliated with CareNet which is a nation-wide pro-life, Christian organization; and we are governed by a local board of directors.
  • We receive materials, training, and education from CareNet. Our desire is to reach out to women and significant others experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.  We are locally funded and supported by churches, individuals, and businesses within our community

5. Why was your organization started? What is your purpose?
  • To provide alternatives to abortion.
  • We believe women have a right (choice) to carry a baby to term, and the PCC ensures they will have that opportunity.
  • Our purpose is to enable a woman to choose life and carry her baby to term.
  • People who call themselves "pro-choice" offer only one choice: abortion. We believe that a woman is not really free to choose unless someone is willing to help her carry to term.
  • We offer constructive alternatives to abortion and education on abortion about possible risks both physically and emotionally.
  • It is not unusual to hear a woman who is considering aborting her baby say, "I'd love to have this baby but..." What she is saying is if she were really free to choose she would carry to term. We exist to make that choice possible.
  • The PCC was started by residents of this community who recognized that the only choice being offered to woman was abortion.

6. How are you funded?
  • We are supported by churches, individuals and businesses in our local area.   We believe it is the responsibility of the local church to help and care for women in unplanned pregnancies.
  • We also receive money from fundraising projects.
  • Thousands of hours are donated by volunteers.
  • Because of the generosity of Christians in our community, we are able to provide all services free of charge to anyone without discrimination.

7. Are you a Christian organization?
  • Yes.
  • Because of the generosity of the Christian community, we are able to provide all of our services free.
  • We are an inter-denominational Christian ministry and are concerned that women do not face unplanned pregnancies alone.
  • We do not require that our clients share our beliefs; our services are open to any woman in an unplanned pregnancy.

8. Do you refer for abortion?
  • No.
  • No. We do not advertise that service.
  • No. We believe that abortion is not best for the mother or her unborn child.
  • No. We have seen the devastating emotional effects of abortion; we could never assist a woman to harm herself and her baby.

9. Are you a pro-life group?
  • Yes.
  • We are concerned about the life of the woman and the life of her child. We value both the life of the mother and her child. That is what makes us pro-life.
  • We are pro-life, but a woman need not agree with our pro-life stance to receive our free services.

10. Aren't you really here to talk women out of abortion?
  • With facts in hand and compassion for the woman and her baby -- we are here to let women know they need not consider abortion.
  • We don't want a woman to feel pressured to have an abortion. We want her to know about life affirming options before choosing or considering an abortion.
  • Many times a woman has received little or no information about her alternatives.   Given information about prenatal development, life affirming options, abortion procedures, and possible risks, she may choose not to abort.
  • We cannot "talk a woman out of abortion."  We can only give her information on pregnancy alternatives, and encouragement and support to carry to term.
  • A woman freely comes to the Center and receives information; and freely leaves here. She makes her own decision.
  • Decisions made in ignorance are rarely good decisions; we provide information to enable her to make the best decision possible which is carry to term.
  • We do not profit from a woman's decision as individuals or as an organization.

11. The opposition claims that you barrage woman with films and pictures of bloody fetuses. Why do you do this?
  • Every video is viewed through the choice of the client. She is fully informed of the content before viewing. We believe that women are emotionally mature enough to handle such information about pregnancy, fetal development and abortion.
  • The claim is purely false!
  • No woman has ever been traumatized by information on pregnancy, fetal development and abortion. Our opposition is claiming this falsely because they are afraid that a woman may choose life instead of abortion.
  • There's something wrong with that claim. First, we do not barrage women with films and gory pictures. We ask her if she wants to view an educational video. She may choose not to. It is far more traumatizing for a woman to have an abortion and find out the facts afterwards.
  • The charge is from abortion providers who are afraid of us providing this valuable information -- they don't want a woman to be informed and to choose life. In many instances, the only option that is emphasized is abortion.

12. Do you discuss any forms of birth control? I hear you push chastity on kids?
  • When a woman's test is negative, the volunteer counselor will discuss the serious issues surrounding her sexual involvement as well as her relationship.   We give information about abstinence until marriage, the healthiest lifestyle for a single woman.
  • Self-control is the best birth control.
  • If more singles chose abstinence, we wouldn't have so many unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • We are not a medical facility and we do not advise or refer for birth control.

13. What do you think about abortion clinic bombings?
  • We are absolutely opposed to clinic bombings and violence of any kind.
14. Do you proselytize?
  • No, we do not force anyone to listen to our beliefs. However, our counselors openly share their Christian faith. If a client does not want to discuss religious issues then they are not discussed.
